St. Regis Bangkok × Van Gogh Afternoon Tea

Thailand's First Van Gogh-Inspired Culinary Experience

FreshO2 × The National Gallery

The Brief

The St. Regis Bangkok wanted to create Thailand’s first Van Gogh-inspired afternoon tea while maintaining the refinement of its House of Astor hospitality experience. The challenge was to translate paintings from the National Gallery, London into food, beverage, décor and merchandise without reducing the artworks to generic decorative motifs.

ARTiSTORY's Role

ARTiSTORY connected The St. Regis Bangkok with the National Gallery, London and coordinated the cultural and rights pathway for the collaboration. We helped identify suitable works, established the creative narrative and supported the hotel’s culinary and hospitality teams in applying approved imagery and artwork-led storytelling across the experience.

The Collection

Served at The St. Regis Bar from 1 February to 31 May 2024, the experience featured sweet and savoury creations inspired by works including Sunflowers, Long Grass with Butterflies and A Wheatfield with Cypresses. The programme also included cocktails, mocktails, themed décor and limited-edition Van Gogh-inspired merchandise, with a refreshed menu introduced in April.

The Outcome

The collaboration introduced a verified National Gallery art partnership to Bangkok’s luxury hospitality market through a time-limited, multisensory format. It enabled guests to encounter Van Gogh’s work through culinary interpretation and created connected opportunities across dining, environment, storytelling and retail.

Featured Experience Elements & Van Gogh Inspirations
Vincent van Gogh - Post-Impressionist Master

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) created some of the most beloved and recognizable artworks in history during his brief but intensely productive career. His Post-Impressionist style, characterized by bold colors, dramatic brushstrokes, and emotional intensity, continues to inspire artists and art lovers worldwide. Through this exclusive partnership with ARTiSTORY and the National Gallery, London, The St. Regis Bangkok brings Van Gogh's artistic passion to Thailand, creating the country's first Van Gogh-inspired afternoon tea experience that honors both his artistic vision and Thai hospitality excellence.

The Starry Night Culinary Art

Inspired by: The Starry Night (1889) Featured: Starry Night Artistic Pastries The afternoon tea's signature desserts capture the swirling cosmic energy of Van Gogh's most famous masterpiece. These meticulously crafted treats feature flowing designs that mirror the painting's dynamic night sky, with edible gold stars and deep blue spirals that evoke the artist's emotional intensity and his fascination with the celestial dance over Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

Sunflowers Golden Delights

Inspired by: Sunflowers Series (1888-1889) Featured: Sunflowers Golden Collection Golden-hued delicacies inspired by Van Gogh's beloved sunflower paintings bring warmth and joy to the afternoon tea experience. These elegant treats feature layers of honey-infused elements and golden yellow presentations, capturing both the visual splendor and the symbolic warmth of Van Gogh's sunflower studies painted during his productive period in Arles.
