The Challenge

In 2022, ARTiSTORY partnered with Jinjiang International Group - Jinjiang Global Innovation Center (GIC) to introduce a series of Dunhuang IP-themed concept rooms. The challenge was to create an innovative hospitality experience that would authentically translate the profound spiritual and artistic heritage of Dunhuang's UNESCO World Heritage Mogao Caves into contemporary hotel environments. The project needed to bridge millennia of Buddhist art, Flying Apsaras celestial beings, and Silk Road cultural elements with modern luxury hospitality, creating immersive spaces that honor the sacred significance of these ancient artworks while providing guests with transformative cultural experiences.

Our Solution

ARTiSTORY developed a comprehensive series of Dunhuang-themed concept rooms that transform hotel spaces into immersive cultural sanctuaries. The collaboration encompasses the co-creation of artistic-themed guest room prototypes, the establishment of art-focused hotel retail ventures, the promotion of global hotel theme initiatives, and the integration of the art retail segment into Jinjiang Global's owner procurement operations. Each room serves as a living gallery where guests can experience the spiritual journey of ancient Silk Road travelers, surrounded by carefully curated interpretations of Flying Apsaras murals, Buddhist meditation spaces, and Silk Road trading post aesthetics. This represents an innovative endeavor as ARTiSTORY and GIC embark on a journey to explore further possibilities within the realm of art, while also empowering the cultural and creative intellectual property.

Dunhuang - Gateway to the Silk Road

Dunhuang, located at the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road, houses the magnificent Mogao Caves - a UNESCO World Heritage site containing over 1,000 years of Buddhist art and cultural treasures. These caves represent one of the world's most significant collections of Buddhist art, featuring intricate murals, sculptures, and manuscripts that document the spiritual and cultural exchange between East and West. These ethereal figures inspire the room's most elegant design elements, with their flowing movements and celestial beauty adapted into wall murals, textile patterns, and lighting designs that create an atmosphere of spiritual serenity.

Buddhist Meditation Spaces

Applied to: Meditation Corner and Sacred Space Design Drawing inspiration from the meditation caves of Dunhuang, the rooms incorporate elements that create contemplative spaces for modern travelers. Sacred lotus symbols, dharma wheels, and peaceful Buddha imagery are integrated into the room design to provide guests with opportunities for reflection and spiritual connection.
