Changi Airport x Monet Experience

Immersive Seasonal Gardens Bringing Monet's Masterpieces to Life

FreshO2 × The National Gallery

The Brief

As travel resumed, Changi Airport Group wanted to enrich the reopened Terminal 2 with a cultural experience that could inspire visitors to rediscover travel. The challenge was to bring Claude Monet’s landscapes from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston into a high-traffic airport setting through an accessible, family-friendly installation.

ARTiSTORY's Role

ARTiSTORY brought Changi Airport Group and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston together, brokered the licensed collaboration and created Monet: A Journey Through Seasons at Changi. We curated the artwork journey, developed the narrative and multisensory experience concept, and worked with delivery partner Archvogue Creative on the spatial interpretation.

The Collection

The 320-square-metre walkthrough at Terminal 2 presented eight Monet landscapes within winter, spring, summer and autumn environments. Artwork displays were combined with atmospheric sound, sensory effects, interactive elements and four seasonal photo opportunities. A hidden Play Cottage for children incorporated licensed cat illustrations by Louis Wain.

The Outcome

Open from October 2022 to March 2023, the installation marked the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s first licensed location-based entertainment project in Asia and its first collaboration with Changi Airport. The experience transformed museum collection material into a free, multisensory airport attraction for travellers, local visitors and families.

Featured Claude Monet Masterpieces
Claude Monet - Father of Impressionism

Claude Monet (1840-1926) revolutionized the art world by capturing the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere in his paintings. His gardens at Giverny became his greatest masterpiece and the inspiration for some of his most celebrated works, including the iconic Water Lilies series. Monet's dedication to painting the same subjects at different times of day and seasons demonstrated his profound understanding of how light transforms our perception of the natural world. This airport installation brings Monet's garden vision to international travelers, creating moments of peace and beauty that transcend the typical airport experience while celebrating his enduring influence on how we see and appreciate nature.

Water Lilies Series (1896-1926)

Spring Water Lily Pavilion Terminal 1 Departure Hall Monet's legendary Water Lilies series comes to life through an immersive pond installation featuring live water lilies, gentle water movement, and projection mapping that recreates the play of light on water that so fascinated the master painter. Travelers can sit beside this tranquil water garden and experience the same sense of peace that Monet found in his Giverny pond.

Poppy Field (1873)

Summer Sunflower Corridor Terminal 2 Transit Area Vibrant red poppies scattered across a meadow with rolling green hills in the background. Monet painted several versions of poppy fields, and this particular one is one of his most famous works, created near Argenteuil, where he lived at the time.
