MU16 × British Library: Flowers from Shakespeare's Garden, Dolce Collection
May 2024

Following its successful collaboration with the British Library in 2023 featuring William Morris, MU16 once again has worked with the British Library through ARTiSTORY's licensing program. This time, the high-end glassware brand took pages from Shakespeare's works and transformed classical botanical illustrations into colorful modern products.

MU16, known for its commitment to crafting exceptional products that celebrate art and design, has embraced this project with enthusiasm. By collaborating with ARTiSTORY, MU16 aimed to offer its customers a unique and visually enchanting experience, aligning perfectly with the brand's dedication to bringing art into everyday life.

British Library

The British Library, a renowned institution that houses an extensive collection of literary and artistic treasures, has played a crucial role in this collaboration. ARTiSTORY's growing partnership with the library granted us access to its archives, allowing us to draw inspiration from the celebrated Victorian artist Walter Crane's "Flowers from Shakespeare's Garden," a book that beautifully captures the rich botanical world within Shakespeare's plays.

THE ARTIFACT

Flowers from Shakespeare's Garden

The book "Flowers from Shakespeare's Garden" by Walter Crane highlights the rich botanical world that is present in Shakespeare's literary works, using personification to depict flowers in a graceful, lively, and poetic manner.

This botanical world within Shakespeare's plays is the inspiration for the glassware sets in MU16's collection. The glassware sets feature lavishly decorated glasses in various colors, drawing direct inspiration from the illustrations and floral imagery in Crane's book that capture the enchanting nature of Shakespeare's literary works.
