After having success in a number of afternoon tea events like one inspired by the works of Piet Mondrian last year and another inspired by the classic tale of Cinderella earlier this year, ANTI:DOTE, located in Fairmont Singapore, aimed to create another immersive and theatrical high tea experience that transports guests into the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland.

Their goal is to offer a meticulously curated teatime where every detail follows a cohesive theme, providing guests with a memorable sense of wonder and enchantment. This project aligns with Fairmont's brand-exclusive series known as Fairmont Rituals, which includes signature high tea experiences across their properties worldwide.

British Library

The British Library, as the national library of the UK, plays a crucial role in this collaboration by providing access to their vast collection, which includes Lewis Carroll's "The Nursery Alice."

Their involvement allows for the authentic representation of the story and its illustrations in the high tea experience. The British Library aims to engage people with memorable cultural experiences, using their collection to inspire and entertain in new and innovative ways.

THE ARTIFACT

The Nursery "Alice"

The primary artwork used in this collaboration is "The Nursery Alice," an adaptation of Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" for younger readers, published in 1890.

The book features over 20 illustrations by Sir John Tenniel, a renowned Victorian illustrator. Tenniel's iconic and imaginative drawings bring the whimsical world of Wonderland to life, capturing the essence of Carroll's storytelling.

These illustrations are instrumental to the theme and design of the high tea experience. These were used to inspire wall decorations and the culinary creations for the event.
